These past two years were unusual and challenging years, with a significant negative impact on local and global economies, and the health and wellbeing of communities worldwide. Unexpected COVID-19 global pandemic, where national and regional responses were varied, involved direct government intervention and regulation of many aspects of life and work. Ongoing restrictions and various lockdown periods prevented us from living our normal lives.
As a Non-Profit Educational Foundation, MIED and its subsidiaries have spent much of the year adapting and adjusting our operations, to ensure we could continue delivering high-quality education, research, and services while safeguarding the ongoing health and safety of our community.
Since the time of its formation in 1984, MIED has continued to help more than 13,000 needy Malaysian students, through Loans and Scholarships amounting to RM 169 million to continue their studies at colleges and universities both locally and abroad. Each year, MIED provides millions in loans and scholarships to students pursuing tertiary education at universities, University colleges, and private colleges. Every year MIED is often the focus of students where the applications received by MIED exceed expectations.
In 2021, the demand from students for study loans has increased compared to previous years. We have disbursed RM 3.3 million study loans and Scholarships from January to November 2021. And another RM 2.6 million has been approved as of 31 December 2021. Therefore the total loan and scholarships for the year 2021 will be RM 6.02 million.
These achievements will speak volumes with regard to the effectiveness of the institution’s objectives. Nevertheless, every little bit counts in helping these students, in giving them that leg-up, as they strive towards achieving their hopes and dreams. This is our collective responsibility, as a Non-Profit organization, to ensure that education remains an uplifting force for all in our Malaysian Indian Community.
