UPSR MODULE BOOK LAUNCHING CEREMONY 2018
In keeping with its mission of enhancing the standard of education, MIED implements various programmes for the development of Tamil schools. These programmes include the provision of better infrastructure facilities and the improvement of academic performance of the pupils. As a constant effort to improve the quality of education of these Tamil schools, MIED has been organising the UPSR module book launch on a yearly basis since 2003.
The UPSR module book launch ceremony for the year 2018 was held in a moderate scale at Nethaji Hall, Menara Manickavasagam on 6th of June, 2018 at 3.00 p.m. The ceremony was graced by Yg Amat Berbhg Tun S. Samy Vellu, Special Envoy to India and South Asia on Infrastructure and Chairman of MIED. A set of the module books comprising of all 5 UPSR subjects were presented to Year Six students and headmasters from selected SJK (T) schools in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
Subsequently, these modules will be distributed to the rest of the national type Tamil schools nationwide with the help of the Tamil school supervisors and MIC branches in each state.
The ceremony was attended by 200 invited guests, comprising of MIED Board of Trustees, the Central Working Committees, officials from the Ministry of Education, Assistant Directors of Tamil Language, Tamil school supervisors, headmasters and 50 of Year Six students from 10 selected Tamil schools, five schools in Selangor and five schools in Kuala Lumpur who will be sitting for the UPSR examinations this year.
Mr Paskaran Subramaniam, the Ex Senior Organiser of National Tamil Schools headed the committee of 50 expert teachers and State Assistant Directors drawn from all the Tamil schools in the Malaysia to prepare the supplementary modules for five UPSR subjects. The UPSR Module Preparation workshop was organised from 4th – 6th April 2018. The contents of the modules for each subject are based on past year questions and with the current examination format as a preparation for Year Six students before their UPSR examinations. It is expected that these modules would be a valuable resource material to guide all the Year Six students to prepare themselves better for the UPSR 2018 examinations.
Yg Amat Berbhg Tun S. Samy Vellu, in his speech said that with the efforts of MIED coupled with the coordination from the coordinate committee of Tamil schools, there is a greater hope that the full potential of the Tamil school students could be enhanced further. This is witnessed by the excellent results achieved by the UPSR students from Tamil schools in recent years.
For the year 2018, approximately 13,902 copies of each module together with 600 copies of teachers’ guide were printed. The cost of preparing and distributing the modules is fully borne by MIED.
The copies are being distributed for free to all UPSR 2018 candidates from 513 national type Tamil schools nationwide. Each Year Six student will receive a set of the UPSR module comprising of Bahasa Melayu (Writing & Comprehension), Mathematics 1 & 2, Science 1 & 2, English (Writing & Comprehension) and Bahasa Tamil (Writing & Comprehension).
In concluding his speech, Yg Amat Berbhg Tun rest assured that MIED, will continue to play vital role in Tamil school education, so that it stands on par with other primary school education.
